CASE STUDY 5
Glacier Transit and Storage
Rohde Bros. Inc. was approached by the owner of Glacier Transit Storage to address the old Ammonia Cooling system for their cold storage facility. The requirement was for a 3 year payback on any work that was done. We were able to meet this goal for the owner on a $50,000 dollar project. Key features of this innovative design include:
- VFD operation of the compressor
- Allows the system to operate more smoothly
- Reduced oil consumption by 75%
- Increased compressor life due by eliminating many start / stop cycles
- VFD’s provide phase correction automatically
- VFD operation of the condenser fan
- Allows floating head pressures down in the winter to increase energy savings
- More precise control results in smoother system operation
- VFD control of the cooler temperature
- 25% reduction in fan CFM results in 50% reduction in energy costs
- Reduced Energy Costs by 25% -- achieving the payback goal
