Mayville H.S. Plumbing and HVAC Replacement

After Rohde Bros. successfully completed the complete replacement of the galvanized plumbing water piping with a copper distribution system in 2003, Mayville School’s Superintendent approached us about the poor quality of the HVAC system and high energy bills. Portions of the HVAC system which was installed in 1958 by Rohde Bros., were outdated and needed replacement. Rohde Bros. replaced the existing boilers with new high efficiency boilers. In addition, we replaced the unit ventilators which were located in the classrooms. However, the item which saves the most energy was the new HVAC control system designed and installed by Rohde Bros. We worked with the owner to correctly establish the schedules for different rooms and programmed the system to shut down the outside air dampers to units which were serving areas which were unoccupied.

Key Points from these projects:

  • Working directly with the owner to continuously modify the HVAC controls as the schedule of the building operation changes during the course of a week, month, semester, and year.
  • Shutting down the outside air dampers for area’s of the building which were not being used, greatly reducing the amount of energy required to heat the building.
  • Installing three high efficiency boilers to replace the existing two boilers and staging these boilers so that they are operating more efficiently
