Job Description: Mechanical Designer

Purpose: Provide design support for construction projects. Refine design concepts and transform concepts into project deliverables.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  1. Team player contributing to a positive and productive environment in the Company.
  2. Attend project turnover meeting to understand project execution strategies.
  3. Review and understand the contract and scope of work to ensure project requirements are met.
  4. Complete material takeoffs for estimating project costs.
  5. Work under the direction of the Project Manager in execution of assigned projects.
  6. Work within the established budget for labor and materials.
  7. Proactively seek to identify means of reducing total cost of the project to protect and grow the gross profit on the project.
  8. Assist with development and detailing of construction plan drawings for design/build projects based upon direction of the project team.
  9. Partner with Foremen to develop fabrication and installation drawings to minimize the total cost of installation.
  10. Work closely with the project team to ensure drawings convey the correct information and are error free.
  11. Provide purchasing information based upon approved drawings and specifications.
  12. Coordinate and schedule prefabrication work and job site deliveries.
  13. Coordinate installation requirements with field staff
  14. Identify change and assist the Project Manager with cost control.
  15. Maintain a sense of urgency on the project – address issues promptly as they arise.
  16. Participate in project planning meetings and assist the Project Manager with planning and communication.
  17. Act as quality control and assure that industry standards and project objectives are met.
  18. Be proactive and cooperative with Local Authorities regarding code compliance and regulatory issues.
  19. Perform other duties as assigned by the Operations Manager

Qualification/Skills:

  1. Associate or Bachelor’s degree in computer aided drafting, design technology, or related field.
  2. Experience using AutoCad, Inventor, Revit MEP, CADmep and/or other drawing programs
  3. Experience with HVAC, plumbing and/or process piping systems.
  4. Excellent problem solving and trouble shooting skills.
  5. Must have good listening skills
  6. Skill in estimating time and material requirements.
  7. Excellent reasoning, verbal and written communication skills.
