JOB DESCRIPTION: HVAC Controls/Service Sales Engineer

PURPOSE:  Build and maintain customer relationships with existing and prospective accounts.  Actively partner with customers to create opportunities to expand controls and service offerings positioning Rohde as the provider of choice.  Responsible for sales relating to controlling and servicing HVAC systems, mechanical processes, and machinery.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Develops and maintains relations with current client base.
  2. Prospects to identify and develop relationships with new clients.
  3. Meet with customer to develop project scope and budget.
  4. Create estimates and proposals for new control system installations, modification of control systems, controls system maintenance, preventative equipment maintenance and repair of equipment.
  5. Present proposals and negotiate final sales.
  6. Responsible for scheduling and leading project kickoff and close out meetings.
  7. Monitors performance of project team to determine compliance with contractual obligations, including budget and quality.
  8. Act as quality control and assure that project objectives are met.
  9. Mentors fellow employees to enhance their skill sets.
  10. Works closely with management to develop and implement a strategy for business growth.
  11. Advise customers on how best to use the products or services provided.
  12. Be a problem solver for customers.
  13. Establish and maintain good relations with clients and local authorities aimed at safeguarding and promoting the client interests.
  14. Ensures that client policy and procedures are consistently implemented across the project.
  15. Assist with developing SOP’s for estimating, project turnover, project management and project closeout.
  16. Participate in trade association and other networking activities.
  17. Other duties as requested, directed or assigned by supervisor


  1. Knowledge of supervisory principles, practices, and techniques.
  2. Working knowledge of Honeywell WEBS-N4 and Allen-Bradley Micrologix control systems
  3. Excellent problem solving, analytical, and trouble shooting skills.
  4. Knowledge of estimating time and material requirements.
  5. Excellent communication skills, including listening, reasoning, verbal and written.

Education and Experience:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field.
  2. 5 year’s experience HVAC design, construction, maintenance.
  3. PE license, CEM certification, and/or LEED AP accredidation are preferred.

Physical/Environmental/Work Requirements:

  1. Must be able to: Travel to customer locations.  Stand or walk for long periods of time during the regular work day; use arms and hands to reach for, handle and manipulate objects; lift and carry materials weighing 5 to 50 pounds.
  2. Must be able to: Perform assigned tasks under all types of environmental and weather conditions including severe cold, extreme heat, wet or dry weather and high winds.  Environmental conditions may include areas where toxic or caustics chemicals or fumes are in use or being stored.
  3. Works in an office environment using computer and other office equipment.
