JOB DESCRIPTION:   Pipe Fabrication Worker

DEPARTMENT:  Fabrication

PURPOSE:  Fabricates and assembles structural metal products, such as framework or shells for machinery, ovens, tanks, stacks, and metal parts for buildings and bridges according to job order, verbal instructions, and blueprints.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Develops layout and plans sequence of operations, applying knowledge of trigonometry, stock allowances for thickness, machine and welding shrinkage, and physical properties of metal.
  1. Locates and marks bending and cutting lines onto work piece.
  1. Sets up and operates fabricating machines, such as flame cutters, drill presses, and pipe cutter.
  1. Hammers, chips, and grinds work piece to cut, bend, and straighten meta
  1. Work independently and uses proper judgment in analyzing and fabricating equipment.
  1. Positions, aligns, fits and welds together parts.
  1. Designs and constructs templates and fixtures.
  1. Verifies conformance of work piece to specifications, using square, ruler, and measuring tape.
  1. May set up and operate machine tools associated with fabricating shops such as radial drill press, end mill and edge planer.
  1. Must be able to prioritize work schedule to meet customer schedules.
  1. Comply with OSHA Safety and Health rules.
  1. Must be able to Mig, Tig, & Arc weld.
  1. May be called out at odd hours or have to work long hours in case of emergen
  1. Must have valid driver’s license and be insurable to drive.
  1. Must be willing to cross trade.
  1. Mentors fellow employees to enhance their skill sets.

Education and Experience:

  1. Associates degree in maintenance related field and/or 2 – 4 years of fabrication experience preferred.

Physical/Environmental/Work requirements:

  1. Must be able to: Stand or walk for long periods of time during the regular work day; use arms and hands to reach for, handle and manipulate objects; lift and carry materials weighing 50 to 100 pounds; climb up and down ladders, work at high heights, scaffolds and other climbing devices; carry tools and equipment; work while in stooped, kneeling, crouched, and crawling positions; be able to see naturally or with correction, to safely perform designated tasks.
  2. Must be able to: Perform assigned tasks under all types of environmental and weather conditions including severe cold, extreme heat, wet or dry weather and high winds.  Environmental conditions may include areas where toxic or caustics chemicals or fumes are in use or being stored.  May be required to operate power tools.
