JOB DESCRIPTION: Service Technician

DEPARTMENT: Service

PURPOSE:  Serves customers by installing and servicing HVAC and Hydronic & Forced Air systems.  Work in a safe manner and keeps work area clean.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Serves existing accounts by analyzing work orders, investigating complaints; conducting tests; resolving problems.
  2. Establishes service by studying system requirements; ordering and gathering components and parts; completing installation; performing acceptance tests.
  3. Maintains rapport with customers by examining complaints; identifying solutions; suggesting improved methods and techniques; recommending system improvements.
  4. Documents service and installation actions by completing forms, reports, logs, and records.
  5. Maintains customer confidence by keeping service information confidential.
  6. Must be willing to cross trade.
  7. May be called out at odd hours or have to work long hours in case of emergency.
  8. Must be willing to travel.
  9. Must have valid driver’s license and be insurable to drive.
  10. Must be able to solder and braze
  11. Mentor’s fellow employees to enhance their skill sets.

Qualification/Skills:

  1. Excellent blueprint experience.
  2. Knowledge of HVAC equipment both heating & refrigeration, air distribution, & hydronic piping.
  3. Controls both hardware & software applications.
  4. Excellent math skills.
  5. Excellent mechanical aptitude.
  6. Good communication and reasoning skills.
  7. Good electrical skills.
  8. Good controls skills.
  9. Good testing and balancing skills.

Education and Experience:

  1. High School Diploma or graduation from certified technical school or 3 – 5 years’ experience as service technician.

Physical/Environmental/Work Requirements:

  1. Must be able to:  Stand or walk for long periods of time during the regular work day; use arms and hands to reach for, handle and manipulate objects; lift and carry materials weighing 50 to 100 pounds; climb up and down ladders, work at high heights, scaffolds and other climbing devices; carry tools and equipment; work while in stooped, kneeling, crouched, and crawling positions; be able to see naturally or with correction, to safely perform designated tasks.
  2. Must be able to: Perform assigned tasks under all types of environmental and weather conditions including severe cold, extreme heat, wet or dry weather and high winds.  Environmental conditions may include areas where toxic or caustics chemicals or fumes are in use or being stored.  May be required to operate or work around power tools.

Will be required to perform other duties as requested, directed or assigned.
